Nestled in the heart of the city’s bustling financial and commercial district, Park Hyatt Zurich is a great addition to the exclusive Park Hyatt portfolio. Surrounded by the major financial houses yet only minutes away from the boutiques of Bahnhofstrasse, Lake Zurich and the beautiful Old Town (Altstadt), Park Hyatt Zurich is ideally positioned for both the business and leisure traveller. Unparalleled service and facilities are perfectly complemented by the sumptuous yet understated décor of the 142 rooms and suites, all of which provide cutting-edge communications technology to rival the luxury of the appointments.

Built on the site of the Escherwiese car park, Park Hyatt Zurich is the first purposebuilt luxury hotel to open in Zurich for over 20 years. Park Hyatt hotels are luxury boutique hotels that are distinguished by their prime locations, exceptional interior design and works of art. Park Hyatt Zurich is no exception and bears the hallmarks of Swiss quality combined with the imaginative flair and taste that Jan Clausen and his team from Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) has brought to this project.

HBA have worked on some of the finest luxury hotels including Park Hyatt hotels in Hamburg, Washington and Sydney to name a few. Their vision for Park Hyatt Zurich was to bring the essence of Zurich into its interiors with the use of materials, patterns, colours and details. The greenery of the city is invoked in the use of natural elements such as the bamboo garden in the Reception, and sets the stage for the hotel’s “Urban Forest” feel.

This same design thread runs through the contemporary architecture of the building. The renowned Zurich-based firm of Meili & Peter Architekten have made a bold statement by melding transparent elements such as glass with external greenery and an abundance of natural light, creating a fusion of indoor and outdoor, the urban and the natural. Light permeates the entire building further accentuating the sense of space that has been created by the vast public areas and luxurious guestrooms.

The heart of Park Hyatt Zurich is its public areas. The main entrance on Beethoven-Strasse leads to an understated yet elegant entry foyer. Upon entering the lobby, guests step into a world of sumptuous elegance that is in every sense larger than life. At ten metres high, the reception area is large enough to house its own bamboo garden set upon the polished blackberry-coloured granite floor. Cream-coloured leather panelling covers the walls of this vast three-storey space filling it with warmth.

The bamboo centrepiece acts as a ‘natural’ separation between the Reception and The Lounge. Here a more traditional feel has been developed using sensual fabrics and rich cherry panelling around the flickering flames of an open fireplace. Furniture is low to the ground and deep sofas and plush lounge chairs have been selected to ensure maximum comfort. Whether relaxing with friends, holding informal meetings, appreciating the fine art or simply enjoying the ‘Lounge Buzz’, this sanctuary of style offers the perfect environment in which to relax and enjoy.

Situated on the corner of Beethoven-Strasse and Dreikönig-Strasse, parkhuus is a bold and vibrant restaurant that features a centrepiece show kitchen and a two-storey wine library that reaches up to the top of the six meter high ceiling and can hold over 3,000 fine wines. The menu is product-driven and concentrates upon natural produce from local artisan producers. Focussing on the finest seasonal produce from the local markets, dining will take place in a setting that is designed to ensure that the diner will feel at ease. Floor-to-ceiling windows give onto a street side terrace and can be opened in fine weather to allow for ‘al fresco’ dining in the summer.

The restaurant design is unadorned and stylish to match the food. The windows provide natural lighting during the day while the extravagant Ingo Maurer chandelier ‘Porca Miseria!’ provides the lighting for the wine room in the evening. Clean and simple lighting has been used throughout the rest of the main restaurant area.

Frank Widmer is the Executive Chef who is overseeing the food and beverage vision of Park Hyatt Zurich. Widmer has worked as Executive Chef for the opening of Hyatt hotels in Egypt, Poland and Jordan. Chef de Cuisine of the Restaurant parkhuus is the German Steffan Heerdt.

Adjacent to parkhuus and separated by iridescent copper mesh glass panels is the ultra chic Onyx bar. Free-form hand blown Murano glass grappa bottles sparkle behind the glowing back-lit Onyx bar top. Behind the bar are two custom designed light fixtures made of light bulbs with twisted fabric spirals in between. The copper mesh panels, slide back in the evening to expose a full bar, and the sound of selected music filters into the streets when the exterior windows are lifted.

Vibrant and relaxed, guests and visitors will be able to unwind while sipping on oversized, exotic cocktails or cradling a rare single malt from the extensive selection available. Similarly, customers will be able to benefit from the large selection of Cuban and Dominican cigars that are available from the humidor.

As with the public spaces of Park Hyatt Zurich, guestrooms and suites are exquisitely furnished to help accentuate the sense of welcome and create an atmosphere of comfort and rejuvenation that make for the perfect haven for both business and leisure travellers. Designed with understated simplicity all rooms are decorated in warm tones that reflect the natural light and enhance the lavishness of the fabrics
and artistic touches. Even the oversized headboards use 100% natural materials and have been designed by a local artist. As well as offering the finest in luxury, all rooms are also tech-smart, with high-speed internet access available and state-of-the-art Bang & Olufsen flat screen television, DVD and stereo equipment as standard.

Extra-large bathrooms come equipped with deep soaking baths and rain showers. Sensuous bath products, especially commissioned from Parisienne parfumeur Blaise Mautin, complete this luxurious package. A sliding partition opens between the bathroom and the guestroom to integrate the two rooms. All guestroom furnishings have been made by reputable Italian artisans.

The Executive Suites are decorated in rich earthy red, chocolate brown, and gold, and feature king and double-queen layouts, his-and-hers vanities, spacious showers and freestanding tubs in the centre of the bathroom. The living room has a complete home theatre system, while a separate dining room provides an option for private entertaining.

The Presidential Suite uses a cooler colour palette of earthy blues, sage greens and copper tones. This luxurious suite features a sage green living room and separate dining room. Light-beige-coloured bedroom offer large walk-in closets while the forest-green, stone bathroom with whirlpool tub provides that extra touch of luxury.     A study/office area, pantry with wet bar, refrigerator, and prep area for entertaining are also provided.

Additional pampering is available from Club Olympus situated on the Mezzanine floor where private treatment facilities provide an extensive range of beauty and holistic packages. As well as providing exclusive guest access to sauna and steam rooms, Club Olympus also boasts the very latest in fitness technology from Technogym.

With 878 square metres of conference and meeting space, Park Hyatt Zurich is an intimate boutique hotel with a large meetings capability. All meeting rooms provide state-of-the-art facilities. The ground floor ballroom is 391 metres square and will comfortably accommodate 230 guests for a gala dinner. The ballroom can provide access for cars if required and is easily accessed through a large pre-function area that can be used for exhibitions, cocktails or coffee breaks. High-tech multi-media and lighting systems will be applied throughout.

As well as housing Club Olympus the Mezzanine floor will also be the location for an additional five meeting rooms, including a high-tech boardroom with seating for 10 participants. All meeting rooms benefit from the same attention to detail that has been lavished on the rest of the hotel. Furniture has been custom-designed in Italy and the artwork selected to suit each room. Access to the meeting rooms will take participants past an enclosed, eastern-inspired bamboo garden with white gravel surround whose sense of calm and wellbeing is almost palpable through its glass casement.

Long known only for its banking and financial institution, Zurich is fast becoming a tourist destination in its own right. Unspoilt by the ravages of 1960’s architecture, Zurich sits perfectly within the natural beauty of the lakeside scenery and snowcapped mountains, inspiring writer and composer Hermann Hiltbrunner to say “I have seen many landscapes and observed how cities fit into their environment, but I have never seen a city, which was so enticingly bedded in its landscape as Zurich.”

With its contemporary design, luxurious appointments and elegant and gracious service, Park Hyatt Zurich heralds a new dawn for quality Swiss hotels.
